Thermodynamic and transport properties

Pressure calculations use absolute pressure. Results retain full precision internally; displayed values are rounded. A dash means the property is unavailable for this state.

Method / Guide

  1. Select By Pressure to enter saturation pressure, By Temperature to enter saturation temperature, or Superheated Steam to enter both pressure and temperature.
  2. Select the input units and pressure basis. Gauge pressure is relative to the entered atmospheric pressure: P(abs) = P(gauge) + P(atmosphere). In temperature mode, the pressure basis applies to the calculated pressure.
  3. Read the calculated properties and choose the display unit separately for each row. Saturated modes show dry saturated steam properties. Heat of vaporization is hᵍ − hᶠ; these are endpoint properties, not a wet-steam mixture.
  4. Use Export CSV or Print / Save PDF to save the selected mode, operating conditions and calculated properties. Reset restores the default pressure lookup.

Unit presets

Units switches input and result units together while preserving the physical operating condition. SI uses kPa; SI(bar) uses bar; Imperial uses psi, °F and BTU/lb; MKS uses kgf/cm², °C and kcal/kg. Individual result units can still be changed separately. Atmospheric pressure is always entered in bar absolute. Reset restores SI(bar).

Calculation range

Saturation: 0.01°C ≤ T < 373.946°C, approximately 0.00611657 ≤ P < 220.64 bar absolute. Superheated mode: pressure up to 1000 bar absolute and temperature up to 2000°C; above 800°C the maximum pressure is 500 bar absolute. Below critical pressure, temperature must exceed the saturation temperature. Above critical pressure and temperature, results are labeled Supercritical fluid.

Energy units: kcal uses the thermochemical calorie (4.184 kJ/kcal), and BTU uses the International Table convention. CSV and PDF use the currently selected result units.

Method and sources

Thermodynamic properties are calculated from IAPWS-IF97 rather than interpolated from a small lookup table. Dynamic viscosity and thermal conductivity use the library's IAPWS transport correlations and may be unavailable outside their own validity ranges.
